Salem will collect bulk items, on your recycling day, if you call Waste Management at 800-972-4545 at least 24 hours ahead. As of August 2026 the city charges $20 per bulk item, and $40 per mattress or box spring, with mattresses scheduled separately through UTEC at 978-856-3997.
A bed is two items, not one. The mattress and the box spring are charged separately, so a single bed set is $80 before anyone has carried anything anywhere.
And everything still has to be at the curb by 7am, out of a house where the staircase turns twice. We come to the room, take it apart if we have to, and sweep up after.
