Saugus does take bulk items at the curb, but with a list of conditions: rugs cut into four-foot lengths, one room and one color at a time, lawn mowers with the gas tank and oil already removed, wood in small bundles cut to four feet. The town also runs a CHaRM drop-off behind the DPW at 515 Main Street.
Mattresses are out. Since October 2022 mattresses and box springs do not qualify as a bulk item in Saugus and cannot go out with the trash. They have to go through an authorized recycler — and getting rid of one any other way is against state law.
Nothing on that list applies to us. Uncut rug, full mower, whole mattress: it goes on the truck the way it is.
